A STUDY IN TRANSLATING ARTIST INTENT
CONTROL Gallery operates as a contemporary exhibition space dedicated to artists working at the intersection of street culture, fine art, and social commentary. More than a traditional gallery, CONTROL functions as a platform for artists to articulate their work within a broader cultural and historical context.
My role with CONTROL was deeply artist-facing and extended across both physical and digital spaces. I worked directly with artists from the earliest stages of each exhibition — listening closely to their intentions, language, and concerns — and translating those ideas into cohesive public presentations. This process often began with refining artist bios and statements, shaping how their work would be introduced, and developing imagery that accurately reflected their practice.
In parallel, I led the design and development of CONTROL’s website, building a digital platform that mirrored the gallery’s exhibition philosophy. The site functioned as an extension of the physical space — carrying artist narratives, visual assets, and contextual information beyond the walls of the gallery, while remaining flexible enough to evolve alongside new exhibitions.
Across exhibitions, editorial materials, and the digital platform, the focus remained the same: clarity, fidelity to the artist’s voice, and thoughtful translation of intent. Each project was treated as a complete arc — from early conversation to public-facing presentation.
